How the Mind and Health Go Together

by Rebecca Cretella

Your thoughts used in the right way have the power to make you truly successful in every area of your life. On the other hand, your thoughts used the wrong way can block you from all the success you desire—in your day-to-day life, in health and wellness, in business, and even in your relationships with others.

When it comes down to it, the most important things in life are your relationships and your health. Everything else is just “stuff”.

When you take away your material possessions, and think about what matters most to you, most likely it’s family, friends, and your own personal well-being. But to stay balanced in your own health and in relationship to others, having the right mindset is KEY.

To illustrate the importance of mindset more clearly, I’d like to share some background about myself and what prompted my work helping others in mind, body, and health. Before I tell you my story, though, I want to say that I have an awesome family, all of whom I love them dearly.

My amazing dad began working at 11 years old out of necessity. He needed to work to help put food on the table for his two younger siblings. He had to work very hard to keep food on the table for them, as his parents unfortunately had many issues of their own. My father could have turned to drugs or alcohol given his difficult upbringing, but he never did. He really was an exception to the rule, choosing to work very hard instead to take care of his family.

When he had a family of his own, he continued to work hard to provide for us. And even though we as children never struggled and my dad gave us everything we wanted and needed, his poverty mindset from his youth persisted (unbeknownst to him and definitely not of choice).

This unfortunately caused my mother and my aunt (my dad’s youngest sister) some heartache and heaviness. I don’t think I understood it completely myself until I studied the mind and body as a whole.

My dad enjoyed career success and he continued to work hard. But because he’d had to make sure there was always enough food on the table from a very young age, he developed an unhealthy habit of telling his sister that if she ate too much, she would get fat. He also made a lot of comments about how others ate. This, of course, is understandable because when he was young, the more his siblings ate, the harder he had to work.

My mom and aunt are both beautiful and skinny, and have been their whole lives. In fact, there were times in the past when my mom was actually anorexic. Both my aunt and my mom constantly diet, and they’re always telling themselves and others that they’re fat. This is something that I couldn’t really understand until I decided to make it my life-long study, and now it’s my passion to help others see their beauty today—not ten years from now when they look back and see how beautiful they were.

As you can imagine, I don’t believe in diets, quick fixes, or any calorie-counting because I saw my mom and aunt do this their whole lives, taking out all the fun there is in this life to enjoy.

Diets mess with your mind. If you’re constantly on a diet, you’re basically telling your mind that you’re fat. I believe in understanding yourself, your body, and your mind, and packaging it up into a lifetime of feeling good about yourself. I take a holistic approach to health and wellness, meaning I look at how all areas of a person’s life are connected.

Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? These are some of the areas I examine with clients.

Together with my clients, I help them develop a deeper understanding of the food and lifestyle choices that work best for them, and implement lasting changes to improve their energy, balance, and overall health.

In the end, your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can either positively or negatively affect your biology. Whatever you believe in your mind with confidence you can achieve. That’s why I wholeheartedly encourage you to think with your body’s health in mind.

To your forever health and new mindset!
